Hi, thanks folks, I think I've solved the issue actually- the parent category didn't have access rights so the forums within it were not visible.
I intended for members to be allocated to groups which would automatically cause certain forums to be visible to them.
Taking this one step further though, I wondered if there was a way of a member of the board being automatically subscribed to a group based on the drop down item that they select at registration. It saves some admin!
