What version of phpBB are you using?
A few of us have been using phpBB 3.3.10/11 & PHP 8.2 for some time without issue. Did you try PHP 8.2? I’m not certain why 7.4 wouldn’t let you log in when 7.3 will, maybe an error in the server PHP setup? FWIW PHP 8.1 and lower are no longer fully supported by PHP.
