[3.3.x] Support Forum • Re: image decoding error

Are these newly uploaded files or are they images that worked on previous host that you transferred to new board?

If they were transferred this is typically because the images were transferred in ASCII mode and you need to use binary mode. phpBB stores files without an extension for security purposes. Filezilla is notorious for this because unlike every other other FTP program known to man that default to the binary mode when a file has no extension it defaults to ASCII which will corrupt the header of any binary file. You need to set Filezilla to binary in the options or use a different FTP program like WinSCP.. Binary is safe for any type of file.

Hopefully you still have access to the originals on the old host. Sorry to say that if you don't have access to the originals there really isn't an easy fix for this. If you search there are ways that may fix this but generally they require a sourced image from the original device, e.g. the camera that took the photo. That is going to make things really difficult.
Will it be related to the GD PHP extension?
Could only be related to the thumbnails of newly uploaded files.
