There is a lot that can be migrated into extensions (it would make life easier for many).I really can’t think of anything that you could remove from the core to ‘free up space’ and make it lighter.
For example attachments (if I remember correctly.. rubencm even mentioned something about it), feed and so on and on.
I don't think this topic is the right place to go deeper into this core subject. So we should try to keep it clean as well.
